My new current body of work is the Speedy series--I'm looking for titles that show how time is compacted by speeding up--this is the direct opposite of my "slow" series which I started in 2003 to help me recognize that even though I was going slow, I was still painting!!! I'm still using stripes as a parallel for modern mechanized-everyday life and I'm using trees to indicate freedom and wild abandon. Trees seem to have a very organic and painterly feel and remind me of abstract expressionism. Stripes and other painted geometry seem very mechanical and computer--they feel like the day to day modern life. Together they are tension and harmony.
Zippy is my 9th entry in the speedy gallery. The shape and colors remind me of an old sign I might have seen driving around as a kid. The tree was painted from a photo from a recent trip to Lake Tahoe. The tree is really wild and has a bristly feel to me. This may be the last one for 2009 unless I get a burst of energy and time!
2009 is my thirtieth anniversary as a painter!!
